The first council tax payment is due on 1 April each year. There are a number of ways to pay including monthly, annually or in two 6-monthly instalments.
Please note that although payments cannot be taken at neighbourhood offices and the cashiers' service is now closed at City Hall, there are public access computers available for you to make online payments.
How to pay
Annually or in two 6-monthly instalments
Payment instalments are automatically set up to be charged monthly, so if you prefer to make an annual payment on 1 April, or two instalments on 1 April and 1 October of each year, please call the customer contact team on 0344 980 3333 so that the account can be adjusted accordingly.
Your council tax bill shows the annual charge payable in 10 monthly instalments, from April to January. The number of instalments will reduce if the bill is sent later in the year. Payments of monthly instalments can be made by direct debit, telephone or online.
Please note that there is an additional charge of 1.95% if you choose to pay by credit card.
This is the charge we incur from the bank and maybe subject to change. We will advise you of any changes to the charge before we take payment.
Direct debit is the easiest and most convenient way to pay. Payments are automatically taken from a bank or building society account each month so no need to worry about remembering to pay the bill. You can choose whether your payment is made on the 1st, 8th, 15th or 28th of each month from April to January.
To pay by direct debit you can either complete the form, from the link below, or call the customer contact team on 0344 980 3333. Our telephone lines are open from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
