Local Housing Allowance (LHA) - rent levels

Norwich City Council area: 1 April 2012 to 31 March 2013

Number of bedrooms Category   Weekly
amount
1 bedroom (shared accommodation) S1 £58.50
1 bedroom (self-contained accommodation) B1 £92.31
2 bedrooms C2 £115.38
3 bedrooms D3 £132.69
4 bedrooms E4 £196.15

The LHA that is used to work out your benefit will depend on how many people are in your household.

Allow one bedroom for *

  • every adult couple
  • any other adult aged 16 or over
  • any two children aged under 10
  • any two children of the same sex aged under 16
  • any other child (under 16)

* Single claimants under 35 years old may only be entitled to the one bedroom (shared accommodation) LHA.

For example, an adult couple with one child would need one bedroom for the couple and one bedroom for the child. We would use the two-bedroom LHA level to work out their benefit.

Where you have an extra bedroom that is used by someone whilst providing necessary overnight care for you or your partner this may be included where the carer lives elsewhere. If you are unsure about whether this extra room allowance might apply speak to the housing benefit team in your local authority.
