Leaseholders

If you buy your flat or maisonette from the council, you become a leaseholder. This means that while you own the property, the council continues to own the freehold.

The council remains responsible for the maintenance of the structure, the communal areas of the block and the estate. Under the terms of your lease, you are required to pay service charges towards these costs and any major works that are carried out.
