Government planning policy (PPS25) requires that local authorities undertake appropriate assessments in their area to ensure that flood risk is taken into account at all stages in the planning process, therefore avoiding inappropriate development in areas of flood risk.
Strategic flood risk assessment level 1
An initial strategic flood risk assessment (level 1 SFRA) was undertaken in 2006 covering Norwich, Broadland, South Norfolk, North Norfolk and the Broads Authority. This provided indicative guidance on the best areas for locating development.
The results of this study can be found on the GNDP website which include the following documents which maybe of specific interest. (Please note that you will need to agree with the disclaimer before accessing the documents).
- Strategic flood risk assessment: main report
- Strategic flood risk assessment: Norwich maps
- Strategic flood risk assessment: subsidiary report - Norwich
These results revealed that further detailed work was required to determine the best location for development in Norwich.
