Delivering services differently

Changes to the way the council operates its neighbourhood offices and customer centre at City Hall will help to deliver £150,000 of savings each year.
The changes, which will be introduced next Wednesday (6 June), involve moving to an appointment-only system at neighbourhood offices rather than making them available as walk-in facilities.
The neighbourhood offices affected are:
  • East Norwich - Pilling Park Road
  • Lakenham office - Mansfield Lane
  • West Norwich office - Motum Road
  • Catton office - Bullard Road 
Although the neighbourhood office function within the Mile Cross based Norman Centre is also affected, the rest of the centre and its services will operate as usual.
These changes will coincide with others being introduced at City Hall. This involves closing the customer centre every Wednesday morning from 6 June onwards, opening from 1pm to 5pm.
Along with this the council’s main phone number (0344 980 3333) will be staffed from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, instead of 6pm.
Julie Brociek-Coulton, cabinet member for customer services, said: “We’re introducing changes at our neighbourhood offices and City Hall in response to what people told us in our budget consultation about how they prefer to get in touch with us.
“The clear message was that in-person visits at neighbourhood offices were least preferable when compared to things like using the website, emailing or calling us.
“But by keeping our neighbourhood offices open on an appointment-only basis it means we can still take care of the needs of our most vulnerable residents, as and when they need our services.”
