An Olympics-themed event offering free children’s entertainment, games and big prizes is set to be held in the north of the city next week.
Inspired by the Games, the funday offers a penalty shoot out competition, a host of activities where you can win your own ‘gold’ medal and the chance to hold an official torch carried in the Torch Relay thanks to our Olympic Torchbearer special guests.
Organised by Norwich City Council, entertainment gets underway from 11am on Thursday 16 August at Catton Community Centre on Jewson Road and includes a Punch and Judy show, face paining, an exciting fire demonstration and the chance to learn about gas safety and identify health risks in your home.
What’s more, there are exciting prizes up for grabs with Gasway, the council’s main contractor for gas repairs and maintenance, giving away a gas barbeque and Foster Property Maintenance, its contractor for housing improvements and upgrades, awarding Love2shop vouchers (accepted at over 20,000 stores) to lucky winners.
Councillor Victoria MacDonald, cabinet member for housing, said: “This is the second in a series of free family fundays we have organised for tenants across the city, with valued support from contractors. The event represents a great opportunity for people to chat face-to-face with council officers and contractors about housing issues or ideas while their children enjoy the free activities and entertainment on offer.”
Catton Residents’ Association and the local fire service will also be lending a hand on the day, which will draw to a close at 3pm. Refreshments will be served.
