Keeping warm and well

10/02/2012

Harsh wintry conditions pose a risk to older vulnerable people and Norwich City Council will be delivering packs offering advice about how to cope with the cold.

A travel mug, hot water bottle and a DVD showing how to do simple exercises are included in the Warm and Well packs which are being distributed on behalf of NHS Norfolk by neighbourhood wardens, housing officers and other council staff to people identified as being in need.

Councils across Norfolk are getting involved with the campaign and the city council is not only using its own services but those of its partners in the voluntary sector to deliver 1,000 of the packs.

Distribution of the packs is starting today and will be completed by the end of March. Extra packs will be made available to Age UK Norwich so it can also identify and help protect older, vulnerable people.

Councillor Brenda Arthur, leader of Norwich City Council and a former chief executive of Age Concern Norwich, said today: “Cold weather can pose very real risks to vulnerable older people and often they struggle to keep themselves warm in their homes. These packs contain things that will offer real comfort and warmth and some great advice about how to keep well during the winter.

“I’m delighted that with the help of NHS Norfolk we will be able to get help direct to those in the most need in our city.”
