New contractor for housing repairs

16/12/2011

A multi-million pound contract to carry out all the housing repairs and maintenance work across the city council’s housing stock will be awarded to Norse Commercial Services Limited.

At Wednesday’s (14 December) cabinet meeting, members approved the intention to award the contract to Norse - which is worth a total of around £39 million across a five-year period.

Alan Waters, deputy leader of the council, said: "The award of this very important contract is the culmination of more than six months hard work by council officers, the cross party contracts working party and tenant and leaseholder representatives.

“The objectives throughout have been to ensure that we have a contract  that will deliver high quality and cost effective repairs and maintenance services over the next five years."

An essential part of the contract relet process requires a minimum 10 day standstill period before contracts can be signed to give unsuccessful suppliers the opportunity for feedback.

Following this process, a mobilisation period will begin in order to achieve the best possible transition between the end of the current contracts and the beginning of the new one on 2 April 2012.
