An extra bank holiday due to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton gives us all a great chance to get the neighbours together and have some fun.
The street party is a British tradition that has carried on for nearly a century, celebrating royal and other national events. They are a great way of bringing the local community together and meeting new people. Plus everyone likes a bit of bunting.
Friday 29 April 2011 will be the perfect date to celebrate, socialise, or just enjoy being outside for a while, so take advantage of the extra bank holiday and organise a get-together on your street.
Norwich City Council has put together an easy to follow pack so you can simply apply for your street party to take place on a safe, traffic-free street, for a minimal cost - lowered from hundreds of pounds to just £29.04.
Helen Selleck, culture and events manager at Norwich City Council, said: “We’ve made it as simple as possible for people to have a get together in their neighbourhood.
“It’s a real opportunity to unleash some community spirit, getting everyone involved in decorating the street, or making the food, will make sure each person living there will feel a part of the event.”
