People living near the Norwich City stadium are to benefit from changes which should make parking near their homes much easier.
From Monday 16 January 2012, the Zone C controlled parking zone will be extended to take in Thorpe Park, which is close to Carrow Road.
The move by the city council follows complaints from people living in Thorpe Park that parking by commuters and football supporters made it difficult for them to find a space.
In consultation with residents and businesses, the council carried out a consultation in order to address the issue. Following a response indicating the majority of people were in favour, members of the Norwich Highways Agency Committee approved plans to extend the Zone C controlled parking zone (CPZ) in July.
The new extension will see the introduction of permit parking areas, a number of limited waiting bays where no permits are required and sections of single yellow lines. It will operate from Monday to Saturday between 8am and 6.30pm. There will also be double yellow lines introduced to Wilson Road.
Councillor Bert Bremner, cabinet member for planning and transport, said: “We have widely consulted people living in this area and listened to what they have to say about parking problems.
This new system is designed to pick up issues that were raised and regulate parking in these streets. It will be a real positive benefit to local people as proved to people in other areas of the city.”
This project is funded from the Local transport plan.
