The Norwich Economy

Population and Employment Figures

Norwich City Council is involved in a wide range of activities to support the Norwich economy, which is thriving. Norwich has the largest clusters of financial services, creative/media industries and health/life sciences in the eastern region. It is also one of the top ten retail centres in the UK.

One indicator of a thriving economy is a track record of major developments. Since the mid 1990s Norwich has been investing in its future. Over £1bn has been invested in major recent and current construction projects. Ongoing major developments include the development of the old Norfolk & Norwich hospital site (housing and healthcare) and further schemes on the river frontage (housing/leisure).

An economic partnership for Norwich (the Economy Round Table) was set up with local businesses and economic stakeholders (including local authorities and education/training providers). An Economic Strategy for Norwich was launched in November 2003 with challenging targets to be achieved by 2008. Click on the link below to view the strategy and related documents.
