A sound business base
Norwich has a diverse business base with a mix of large and small companies.
- Over 50 companies have national or regional headquarters in the city, including household names such as Aviva (formerly Norwich Union), Virgin, Unilever, Kettle Foods, KLM and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
- Norwich is home to the region's most significant cluster of financial services – around one in four of the Norwich workforce is employed in the financial services industry by companies like Marsh, the world's leading risk management and insurance services company: Aviva (formerly Norwich Union), the largest insurance company in the UK, Moneyfacts and Central Trust.
- Norwich is a major centre for creative and media industries and home to companies like BBC East, ITV Anglia, and Archant (the largest independently owned regional media group in the country).
- Norwich Research Park is one of Europe's leading clusters of research and development into health, food, plants, microbes, the environment and computing sciences.
- Norwich is one of the top retail centres in the UK. A £275m retail development, Chapelfield, opened in the city in 2005.
There is also a highly developed support network for businesses, combining the resources of Norwich City Council with national and local agencies.
