Civic Awards for Voluntary Service 2010

The Lord Mayor and Sheriff invite nominations for their Annual Civic Awards for Voluntary Service. The awards are given to people in Norwich who give their time, care and support freely, for the good of others, without financial reward.

We welcome nominations for individuals, groups and charities to receive recognition for the valuable and important work they do to help other people.

The award can be for any aspect of voluntary work from practical assistance through leisure, recreation and education to community action, fundraising or any volunteer work that supports others in the city.

A panel of judges, which includes the Lord Mayor and Sheriff will meet in March to make some difficult choices. Successful nominees will be notified and invited with guests to a ceremony to receive their award, followed by a civic reception.

One lucky winner and guest may also have the opportunity to be nominated to attend a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in 2010.

There are four categories

1. Young people aged between 11 and 25 years - any young person nominated needs to have given voluntary work in the city for at least one year or lived in Norwich for at least one year.

2. Adults - any adult nominated must have either given voluntary work in the city for at least five years or lived in the Norwich City Council area for at least five years.

3. Groups - any group or organisation nominated must give voluntary service and support to the community within the Norwich City Council area.

4. Charity - any registered charity nominated that has made the most difference to the lives of the people of Norwich in the last year.
