Housing Register

The Housing Register is a list of people who want to move into or are between homes owned by the the city council and participating housing association. These are:

  • Broadland Housing Association
  • Orwell Housing Association
  • Cotman Housing Association
  • Orbit Housing Association
  • Guiness Trust
  • Wherry Housing Association
  • Peddars Way Housing Association
  • Saffron Housing Trust
  • Hastoe Housing Association
  • Places for People
  • Habinteg Housing Association

Included on the register are:

  • People who are homeless
  • People who are not currently in a council or housing association home but want to move into one
  • People wanting to move from one council or housing association home to another

How to apply?

There is a new system called Home Options. First, you need to apply to the housing register, then you can bid for the property of your choice, instead of having to wait for an offer from the council. Other housing options, such as private rented homes, are also advertised through the scheme.

Registration forms can be filled in on the scheme website www.gnhomeoptions.org.uk or using any of the public access computers.

Alternatively, registration packs are also available from the offices of the three councils.

What happens to applications?

We will check you are eligible to join the housing register and assess your housing needs. We will then write to tell you:

  • Your housing registration number
  • The band you have been placed in
  • The size of property you are entitled to bid for.

Sheltered housing

This is included in the Home Options Scheme. Only people over 55, or 60 for some schemes, will be able to bid for these properties. If you would like more help with this you can contact our Sheltered Housing Team on 01603 213679.
