The sports and leisure development team champions the delivery of high quality sport and physical activity by supporting local sports clubs, encouraging volunteers into sport, promoting equal opportunities for all and actively engaging in community projects that promote health and well-being.

Riverside Leisure Centre
The Riverside Leisure Centre can be found on the Riverside Complex, opposite the Norwich City Football Club ground. The centre, which is managed by Leisure Connection Limited on behalf of Norwich City Council, offers both membership and
pay-as-you-go options with considerable discounts through the council’s Go 4less leisure discount scheme. Click here for more information about the centre.

4. Funding for sport and physical activity
Funding Guide
The sports development team provides support to clubs, groups and individuals to find external sources of funding. The team
has also produced a new funding guide that provides signposting to possible sources of funding and also advice on how to make
a good quality application.
The 2010 edition of the Sport and Physical Activity Funding Guide is currently being updated

5. Sports directory
The Norwich sports directory was produced by Norwich City Council's sports development team. The directory highlights the wide variety of exciting sporting and physical activity opportunities available to people in the Norwich area, including information about clubs, facilities, disability sport and volunteering.

7. Sports development e-newsletter
A sports development e-newsletter was launched in October 2009 to support Norwich based sports clubs, coaches and volunteers. The e-newsletter includes information about club and coach development, new facilities, funding and disability sport. Download the latest issue.

8. Disability sport
The sports development team works to develop and promote sporting opportunities for people in Norwich who have a disability.
Norwich Disability Sports Forum
The Sports Development Team supports the Norwich Disability Sports Forum which was launched in April 2009 with an initial aim
of bringing together clubs, groups and organisations in order to raise awareness of activities and promote equal access and
provision for all. A representative from all organisations involved in disability sport is welcome to attend the forum

Active Norfolk Youth Games
The Norwich Sports Development Team works closely with other local authorities and Active Norfolk in delivering the annual
Youth Games which is a sports festival for young people in Norfolk with a disability.

9.Swimming development
Swimming development plan for Norwich
Produced by Norwich Swimming Forum, the plan seeks to increase the provision for swimming across Norwich and enable everyone
to benefit from one of the most popular forms of physical activity. It aims to provide
support to a whole range of aquatic activities and water based initiatives by working with other Norfolk swimming forums, clubs,schools, facilities, county and regional swimming bodies.

10. Active Norfolk - County Sport and Physical Activity Partnership (CSPAP)
Active Norfolk is one of the County Sports Partnerships (CSPs) created by Sport England and tasked with increasing the levels of participation in sport and physical activity across the county.
The partnership comprises all of those involved in sport and physical activity in Norfolk, principally, the local authorities (LAs), including Norwich City Council, the School Sports Partnerships (SSPs) and the National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs).

Club and coach development
Active Norfolk deliver a range of club and coach development courses in the Norwich area.
Courses include:
- first aid
- safeguarding and protecting children
- coaching disabled performers
- equity in your coaching
- sports nutrition
- injury prevention and management
- long-term athlete development (LTAD)
- web design for your club
- recruiting new volunteers.

11. Norwich School Sport Partnership
The Norwich Schools Sport Partnership (NSSP) consists of 5 secondary schools, 41primary and 5 special schools. The purpose of the NSSP is to increase sports opportunities for young people through co-ordinated physical education, school sport and out-of-school-hours learning activities that link with local community sports facilities and development programmes.
