Licensing - Animal activity licence fees

The fees are broken down into two parts:

1. An application fee payable at the time of application. This fee covers the costs associated with determining the application to the point that it is ready to issue.

2. A grant fee to cover the remaining costs which is payable at the point that the application has been determined.

The application fee is the same for both new and renewal licence applications.

Providing boarding for cats and dogs (day care / home boarding / kennels and catteries)

In addition the operator will be invoiced for the full cost of the application vet inspection and the subsequent compliance vet inspection (one for the duration of the licence).

Keeping or training animals for exhibition

Where the application is successful all licences for keeping or training animals for exhibition are for three years.

Combination of licensable activities

Where operators are undertaking a combination of activities for example dog boarding and dog breeding, the operator will pay the highest total fee plus an additional fee for each activity, to cover the preparation of additional reports.

Preparation of one additional activity report - £79

Fee for requesting a rerating after the licence has been issued

  • Providing boarding for cats and dogs - £188
  • Dog breeding - £208
  • Selling animals as pets - £188
  • Hiring out horses - £208

In addition to the above fee, rerating may require an additional enforcement cost being paid if the number of years of the licence is increased.

Variations to reduce the number of animals or licensable activities

Administrative fee - £75

Where a change in conditions of the licence is requested which does not warrant a reinspection.

Transfer due to death

Administrative fee - £50

If a licence holder dies, the personal representative of the deceased can take on the licence provided that they inform the local authority within 28 days of the death that they are now the operators of the licensable activity.
