National lockdown and recovery roadmap

What you need to know

Updated 19 July 2021

Step 4 recovery roadmap plan

The UK government has set out a roadmap for easing the Covid restrictions in England. Step 4 started on Monday 19 July 2021.

This means that:

  • Legal restrictions around social distancing end
  • Face coverings are no longer mandatory
  • There are no restrictions or limits on gatherings (indoor or outdoor)
  • All venues currently closed can safely reopen with no capacity limits such as nightclubs

People’s personal judgement will now be key in learning to live with the virus.

Regular asymptomatic testing is still encouraged to break the chain of transmission. Face coverings, social distancing and meeting outdoors are all still very much encouraged but are no longer being enforced.

However, if you or someone close to you tests positive for the virus, mandatory 10-day self-isolation rules are still in place.
There are still some important rules around international travel and ‘covid passports’ so please make sure you’re aware of any quarantine rules and/or travel restrictions before you book or organise travel.
