More help with heating needs

Help with your bills

Cold weather payments

You may be able to access cold weather payments if you are in receipt of certain benefits.

Payments will be made when your local temperature is either recorded as, or forecast to be, an average of zero degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days.

Visit Gov.uk for more about cold weather payments.

Winter fuel payments

If you were born on or before 25 September 1956, you could get between £100 and £300 tax-free to help pay your heating bills.

Visit Gov.uk for about winter fuel payments.

Warm Home Discount

If eligible, you can get £140 off your electricity bill under the Warm Home Discount Scheme. The money is not paid to you - it’s a one-off discount on your electricity bill, between October and March.

You will automatically be eligible if you are receiving the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit. You might be eligible if you are on a low income and meet your supplier’s criteria for the scheme – you will need to contact your energy supplier for more information and apply.

You may also be able to join the Priority Services Register, which can provide you some additional support measures like accessible information and help with meter access. Find out more on the Ofgem website.
