If your address is eligible for a resident permit, in most cases you can apply for a visitor permit.
4-hour short stay visitor permit
This allows a visitor to park their own vehicle on-street in a designated controlled parking zone for up to 4 hours (operated by a ‘clock’). Available for any period between one and 18 months.
A free six month permit can be issued to households on certain means tested benefits.
The permit fee is calculated by multiplying a £1.05 monthly parking fee by the number of months required and then adding the £12 permit charge.
|Base permit charge||Monthly fee||3 months||6 months||12 months|
An admin fee of £12 is payable to replace a lost or stolen permit (free or paid-for).
Visitor permit scratch cards
This allows a visitor to park their own vehicle on-street in a designated controlled parking zone for the day. Each scratch card is validated at the time of use and is valid up to 10am the following day.
You can apply for up to 60 pay-as-you-go day-permit scratch cards per household per rolling year. They are issued in single sheets of five individual scratch cards, subject to a minimum purchase of £12.
For city centre zones:
- 1 sheet of 5 scratch cards - £6
- Minimum purchase is 10 scratch cards - £12
- Maximum purchase per year is 60 scratch cards - £72
For outer area zones:
- 1 sheet of 5 scratch cards - £3
- Minimum purchase is 20 scratch cards - £12
- Maximum purchase per year is 60 scratch cards - £36
Renew a permit
Renewal reminders will still be sent to permit holders 30 days before the permit is due to expire.
Please note that the reminders service is provided as a courtesy to residents and it remains the responsibility of the permit holder to check the expiry of their permit and renew accordingly. When the vehicle is parked in a permit zone it is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that the vehicle is parked with a valid permit on display.
