Gritting roads

If your local grit bin needs repairing, tell us about it using the online form.

Our grit bins will be filled by early December and, if necessary, filled once more by early February.

Empty grit bins can be reported but it may not be possible for them to be refilled outside the arrangements outlined above.

Gritting routes

Norfolk County Council is responsible for gritting roads in Norwich as well as major roads throughout the county. Norwich City Council is responsible for putting out the grit bins in Norwich and refilling them.

Between November and April there are 326 grit bins containing a mixture of salt and sand located around the city.

Please be sparing in the use of the grit bin material. It should only take 40 grams (about 1 tablespoon) to treat a square metre. Too much grit can cause braking and slipping problems
