FAQs for new parking charges at Eaton Park

Parking charges at Eaton Park will come into effect from Saturday, 25 March.

What are the parking charges?

Monday to Sunday (excluding Christmas Day):

  • Up to 4 hours - £2.00
  • Up to 5 hours - £5.00
  • Up to 6 hours - £6.00
  • Over 6 hours - £8.00

Why has the council introduced charging for parking in parks?

The council is now also facing significant financial challenges which means vital services will be heavily impacted if we don’t increase income.

When will the new parking charges start?

The new prices will come into effect on Saturday, March 25, 2023.

Which car parks are affected?

Both council-owned car parks in Eaton Park. This doesn’t include the depot for Norwich City Services Ltd.

What will the additional revenue be spent on?

All income we generate will help us fund vital services to support communities, residents, and businesses.

I have a blue badge. How will I be affected by the new charging system?

All city council-owned car parks have blue badge holder spaces where holders can park free of charge – please always display your blue badge if you park in one of these parking spaces.

Can I purchase a season ticket for the car park?

Yes. Following feedback from the public consultation, season tickets are now available for regular users of the park. They are available to purchase online through the council website and are valid for a maximum of four hours a day. Prices for the season tickets are £40 for six months and £70 for 12 months, working out at less than £2 per week to park at Eaton Park.

Won’t the changes affect businesses and people visiting the park?

The new pricing structure should encourage a more regular turnover of spaces, making it easier for people to find somewhere to park when they need to. In turn, we hope this will mean more people will visit Eaton Park as it will be easier to park. We encourage people to use the park nearest to their home or to travel to Eaton Park using sustainable transport, where possible.

Do you offer a discount for key workers, charities, and not for profit organisations?

The city council operates all its existing car parks on a commercial basis and does not offer any discounts on day rates to any individuals or organisations. We have introduced a season ticket for regular users of the park.

I would pay to use the car park, but it’s hard to find enough change to pay for parking

All city council car parks now have a contactless payment option. Eaton Park only offers contactless payment and will not accept cash payments.

Will the introduction of charging reduce the number of visitors to the park?

The new pricing structure is aimed at encouraging a more regular turnover of spaces, making it easier for people to park somewhere when they need to. In turn, we hope this would mean more people visiting Eaton Park, as it would be easier to get a parking space. We’d also encourage people to use the park nearest to their home or to travel there by sustainable transport, where possible.

Are additional provisions being made for cycle users?

The parks and open spaces team will review and install extra cycle racks, if needed, to support the park.

I regularly attend the park for sporting events, do I get a discount?

A season ticket is available to purchase for regular users of Eaton Park.

I attend parkrun or junior parkrun at 9am on a Saturday/Sunday - can I buy a ticket before the event starts?

Tickets are available to purchase at the machines from 8am each morning. Even if a ticket is purchased at 8am, all tickets will be valid from 9am when the charges start, so you will not lose money by buying it an hour earlier. Alternatively, for those who regularly attend events at Eaton Park, a season ticket is available to buy at a cost of £40 for six months or £70 for 12 months, which may work out cheaper and means people don't have to buy tickets from the machine each time they drive to the park.

Will I have to pay for parking if I am just dropping someone off or picking them up?

Following feedback from the public consultation, the council is allowing a 15-minute grace period for those dropping people off or picking them up from the park. An example of this is dropping off and picking up children from sports clubs at the park.

I work for a business in the park, do I get free parking?

A season ticket is available to purchase for regular users of Eaton Park.
