Background information

The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and Localism Act 2011 give local communities the ability to create local planning policies within Neighbourhood Plans.

Neighbourhood plans allow local people to influence future changes in their area by setting out policies to help get the right type of development for their community but the plans must still meet the needs of the wider area.

If a neighbourhood forum designation is made, no other organisation or body may be designated for that neighbourhood area until that designation expires or is withdrawn.
