Starting from scratch
Kim visited a drop-in session at the Norman Centre on numerous occasions after hearing about it from a family member.
Kim said that he “didn’t really know how to do anything” before he started attending the sessions with Peter, and was “starting from square one”. He didn’t have a particular thing he wanted to learn, but just generally wanted to make a start.
He now knows how to email, access online shopping, search the internet for information and look at the news.
One unexpected benefit of attending the drop-in sessions was that he found out about all the other activities that go on at the Norman Centre, and being near retirement he is planning on joining in with these.
Kim has already recommended the project to other people, saying that Peter was “brilliant - very helpful and very patient”. He is trying to practice regularly and improve his typing skills, but will return to the Norman Centre if he gets stuck. He is also hoping someone gets him a tablet for Christmas this year.
