Events 2021

 Council events

We are dedicated to providing free events that bring the city together throughout the year, and our main priority is always about keeping everyone safe.

Due to the current coronavirus situation we will be reviewing arrangements for all council-run events in line with government guidance, as well as liaising with participants, performers, contractors and emergency services.

Plans for each event will depend not only on the time of year they are due to take place, but the activities required to plan them.

Updates for individual events will be provided as soon we have them.

Lord Mayor’s Celebration

The Lord Mayor’s Celebration will not go ahead again this year. While the planned government roadmap out of lockdown indicates the country may be free from restrictions from June, the Lord Mayor’s Celebration relies on significant planning, partnership work and community participation several months in advance of the event itself – activities which have not been possible so far in 2021.

Instead, this year, we are working with the UK Centre for Carnival Arts to help schools and groups across the UK celebrate Carnival together.

Carnival artists from across the county are putting together a programme of online teaching resources and ‘make carnival at home’ videos. Schools are invited to hold their own carnival event, whether it is a playground-parade or carnival fashion show between 12 July and 18 July.
