Norwich’s Digi-Tech Factory receives ministerial visit

26 November 2021

City College’s new Digi-Tech Factory received a ministerial visit today.

Minister of State (Levelling Up, The Union and Constitution), Neil O’Brien, visited the state-of-the art building which provides students with the latest technology and specialist training vital for business in the burgeoning digi-tech sector.

The Digi-Tech Factory if one of eight projects which make up Norwich Town Deal programme. It is the first Town Deal project in the country to be complete.

Following a tour of the building, meeting students and some hands-on experience of the technology they use, the minister attended a round table discussion with members of the Town Deal Board to hear about the programme so far, and ambitions for the city.

The minister was then taken on a tour around the site of the proposed east Norwich redevelopment. This hugely ambitious project aims to create a new city quarter with the potential to create up to 4,000 new homes and 6,000 new jobs - potentially making it the largest development opportunity in the east of England.

Critical to moving forward is the creation of a masterplan, jointly funded by the Towns Fund, landowners, Homes England and the city council, which will lay out a future vision and provide a framework for comprehensive development.

Leader of Norwich City Council, Councillor Alan Waters, said: “This incredible facility is a huge boost for our city – providing the technology, skills and teaching to ensure our residents are equipped with the skills of the future.

“We were pleased to have the opportunity to share our vision for Norwich with the minister, as well as discuss how to tackle challenges faced across the region to ensure our city reaches its full dynamic potential.”
