A carnival atmosphere and community spirit filled the streets of Norwich when the Lord Mayor’s Weekend #LMW23 took place this summer, from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 July.
The weekend showcased the very best that Norwich and Norfolk has to offer. The Lord Mayor’s Procession returned with the theme Sights of the City, with the annual carnival parading through the city centre featuring an array of talent from acrobats, dancers, music and spectacular displays, as well as lots of local organisations and charities playing their part.
The programme over the weekend offered a feast for all the senses and included unmissable musical performances, entertainment and food.
The City Hall Stage played host to Voices of the City, featuring superstar singers, poets, comedy and beatboxers. Sounds of the City took place in Chapelfield Gardens showcasing local musical and dance talents, interactive family shows and a funfair; while Tastes of the City served up the finest selection of tasty treats from local food producers.
The weekend was rounded off with the Great Norwich Duck Race and the Norwich Lanes Summer Fayre. Funds raised during this year’s Lord Mayor’s Weekend go to the Lord Mayor’s and Sheriff’s chosen charity, the Norfolk Community Foundation’s Nourishing Norfolk initiative, which is their civic charity appeal for 2023-24.
Here is a look back at the some of the fantastic carnival fun atmosphere of the Lord Mayor’s Procession and the entertainment in Chapelfield Gardens and at City Hall.
