Saturday’s Lord Mayor’s Procession will now start at 6pm, one hour later than originally scheduled, due to England’s World Cup quarter final match.
This decision has been made in collaboration with the emergency services, and will allow anyone hoping to watch both events to do so.
The change will also apply to the Lord Mayor’s 5k Road Race, which will now start at 5:45pm.
There are no other planned changes to the rest of the celebration’s programme.
Road closure start times will be as advertised. Some roads will remain closed for slightly longer than advertised to allow the procession to complete and for the route to be cleared. We will reopen them as soon as it is safe to do so.
Participants of the procession and road race have been contacted directly by email with further details.
Helen Selleck, Norwich City Council’s culture and events manager, said: “The Lord Mayor’s Celebration always happens on the first weekend of July and is planned many months in advance.
“We have a weekend full of entertainment to look forward to, and a win for England would be the icing on the cake.”
This year’s event celebrates all things circus, as part of Norwich’s role as a Circus 250 host city. The full schedule for the weekend can be found at www.norwich.gov.uk/lmc.
