Five weeks of festive fun are set to land in the city centre as Norwich City Council reveals its first ever ‘Countdown to Christmas’ for 2021.
City shoppers and diners will be able to enjoy a selection box of entertainment every Sunday in the run up to the big day. From choirs and dance groups to jolly characters including Santa Claus himself, there will be something to help everyone step into Christmas in Norwich this year.
These pop-up events will replace the council’s previously familiar events schedule at this time of year, Spooky City, Big Boom and Christmas Switch On. The decision to introduce this five-part series in place of these three events was made due to various factors, including the uncertainty caused by the pandemic.
Countdown to Christmas will provide an opportunity for families and performers alike to be part of a range of outdoor celebrations with smaller crowds than those at the traditional standalone event which attracts thousands of people.
Alan Waters, leader of Norwich City Council, said: “It is wonderful to see the city really coming to life again after such a challenging eighteen months.
“I am delighted at the prospect of this series of festive performances, which will offer a charming alternative to our usual events programme.”
City centre illuminations, including Norwich BID’s Tunnel of Light, will appear from Tuesday 16 November.
The schedule for the Countdown to Christmas will be revealed in November, and will be published at www.norwich.gov.uk/events
