The city council’s main offices and phone lines will be closed from 4pm on Friday 23 December and will reopen at 9am on Tuesday 3 January 2023.
We’re still available if you need us with many of our services available online. All online forms will remain available over the closure period, but those which need processing by council staff will be dealt with after the holiday.

Council tenants
Council tenants who have a heating or hot water emergency can call the out of hours number 01603 412180 or Gasway on 01603 258617. Please note Gasway are closed for the Christmas and New Year bank holidays.
Non-urgent enquiries or issues
Any reported will not be processed until Tuesday 3 January 2023.
Car parking enforcement
To help keep traffic flowing during this busy time, civil enforcement officers will continue to patrol over the festive period so please be aware of on-street parking restrictions (this includes bank holidays)
Any payments or challenges to penalty charge notices (PCNs) made over the Christmas period may not be visible until 3 January.
Payments
There will be delays with posting money to accounts over the closure period (eg customers paying rent, Council Tax, etc)
This will mean that any recent payments made will not appear on accounts until the first week of January.
Pest control
There will be no pest control service on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, 27 December and New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and 2 January. The service will resume on Tuesday 3 January.
The Norman Centre
The Norman Centre will close at 2pm on Saturday 24 December and will reopen at 9am on Tuesday 3 January.
Riverside Leisure Centre
Riverside Leisure Centre will be closed from 1pm on 24 December to 26 December and 31 December to 1 January and will reopen at 8am on 2 January.
The Halls
The Halls will be closed to the public from 5pm on Saturday 24 December until 9am on Tuesday 3 January.
The Halls has a number of pre-booked events planned over the festive period – these will be unaffected by the Christmas closure.
Waste and recycling collections
There will be changes to waste and recycling collections.
Garden waste collections
The last garden waste collection will be on Friday 23 December. The first collection after the new year will be on Monday 9 January.
Bulky waste
Collections will stop at the end of the day on Friday 23 December and resume on Tuesday 3 January.

Vaccination centre
While the city council’s offices are closed until 3 January, the vaccination centre in City Hall will be open from Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 December.
