Introduction

This section of lost wall, between the wall surviving at St Martins at Oak Wall Lane and the site of St Martin's Gate, was just over 100 metres long and included one intermediate tower, one of two towers between St Augustine's Gate and St Martin's Gate.

[1] Overall, the distance between St Augustine's Gate and St Martin's Gate was about 205 metres and the 14th-century Customs Book records that there were 69 battlements on this section of wall.  [Fitch ix]
