Online forms: Application form for housing benefit and council tax reduction

You are about to make a claim for housing benefit and/or an application for council tax reduction. Council tax reduction is the scheme that replaced council tax benefit, this form should not be used to apply for council tax discounts or exemptions. Please click here for further details.

You must answer all of the required questions (marked required) in each section of the form before you will be able to move forward to the next section. Once you have started your claim/application you must continue to the end and submit the form. Please note that you only have 10 minutes to fill out each page and YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COME BACK TO THE FORM AT A LATER TIME BECAUSE YOUR ANSWERS WILL NOT BE SAVED.
The form should take approx. 20 minutes to complete, longer depending on your circumstances.
You will need to provide information to support some of the answers you have given in the form. You may wish to get items relating to your tenancy, income, bank accounts, ID ready to support your application. Original documents can be posted to Norwich City Council, City Hall, St Peters Street, Norwich NR2 1NH.
The person completing the form must be the claimant/applicant and you will be asked to declare this before submitting the form.
You can only assume that your claim/application has been successfully submitted upon receipt of a confirmation email.

What we do with your data – We use the information you give us to process your housing benefit claim/application for council tax reduction. We aim to keep your information for 6 years plus current year as stated in our retention policy available on our website.

What are your rights? – Under data protection legislation you have the right to request access to your personal information; ask for errors to be corrected; restrict how your information is used; object to how it is processed; or request that your data is deleted. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioners Office if you are not happy with how your data is processed.

What are the consequences of not providing data? – we will be unable to assess your claim for housing benefit/application for council tax reduction.

Data sharing – Information provided for housing benefit/council tax reduction  is shared with IT, DWP, Revenues, Housing, HMRC in order that they may carry out their statutory duties.  We may also share your details externally where we are lawfully required to do so for the prevention and detection of crime and fraud, or for the collection of taxes.  We will not use your information for marketing purposes unless you consent to it.
