Consultation closed: Transport for Norwich - Exchange Street cycling and loading proposals

Consultation closed 27 March 2018

We are running a consultation on changes to Exchange Street and we would like to hear your views.

The proposal aims to make better use of the area for loading to businesses and to improve access by bike through the following measures:

  • Marking a new loading area for commercial vehicles only on the Lobster Lane side (west) of Exchange Street.PLan
  • Changing the existing loading bay to become loading for commercial vehicles only at all times.
  • Making the Bedford Street side (east) of Exchange Street no loading or waiting at any time.
  • Allowing cycles to ride contraflow (towards the city centre) along Exchange Street in a marked lane, up until its junction with Lobster Lane/Bedford Street.

These proposals are an addition to the wider city centre access strategy that was agreed last year.

Please view the original consultation. The outcome of the consultation was presented at the September 2017 meeting of Norwich Highways Agency Committee, at which councillors agreed to adopt ‘Option 2’ – access by motor vehicles to existing time-restricted streets in the city centre permitted between 5pm and 10am, seven days a week. Cycling permitted at all times. View the report here (agenda item 5).

This strategy and, if agreed, changes on Exchange Street are due to be implemented in summer 2018.
