Council Tax discount for a single occupant taking in a refugee

A local discount that enables a person who would normally qualify for the 25% single person discount to keep this reduction for three months if they take a refugee into their property.

Who will benefit from this discount?

This discount is available to people who would normally qualify for a single occupancy discount but would lose it if they were to take in a refugee.

If you are in receipt of the discount you must advise us within 21 days of any change in circumstances which may affect your entitlement to discount. For example, a new adult moving in or the refugee leaving the property.

The discount was introduced from 1 April 2019.

How to apply

You will need to apply in writing (email or post) except for cases where we have been able to establish all the conditions of entitlement to the discount from existing evidence held by us or has been provided to us.

Applications may be made by email to revenues@norwich.gov.uk or by post to:

Revenues
City Hall
St Peters Street

Once an award has been made an adjustment notice or bill will be sent confirming the discount.

Anyone in receipt of a discount must tell us within 21 days of any change in circumstances which may affect their entitlement to any discount.

Read the policy for more information and how to apply.
