Norwich Whifflers were born out of the Norwich Society and Kemps Men of Norwich Morris dancers in the late 20th century, with the intention of preserving the heritage and old traditions associated with the civic ceremonies and office of the Lord Mayor of Norwich.
Traditionally, Whifflers support the Lord Mayor at three events during the year:
- The mayor-making and the civic reception in May
- The civic service in the Cathedral in June
- Part of the Lord Mayor's procession in July
Other events may also be supported by the Whifflers.
