Response to Interim Polling Review 2021 consultation

2021 Norwich City Council Interim Polling Review – Norwich City Council Labour Group Proposal

Bowthorpe

We support the proposals.

Catton Grove

We support the proposals.

Crome

We accept the proposed polling district changes. In addition we suggest that the boundary between CR1 and CR3 is moved from halfway along Wellesley Avenue North to halfway along Plumstead Road (from the Heartsease roundabout to Ketts Hill). Plumstead Road provides a much more natural boundary, as a main feeder road into the city, separating two communities with different identities. We calculate this would involve the transfer of approximately 85 properties from CR3 to CR1.

We oppose the use of Mousehold Hub as a polling station for CR5(S). It is outside the polling district. In order to access it residents need to walk to the end of Mousehold Street, up the fairly steep hill up Silver Road, and then down Mousehold Avenue into a different parliamentary constituency. This proved impossible for many residents on polling day. We spoke to countless voters on polling day who said they were intending to go out and vote. However when we highlighted to them the polling station had moved to Mousehold Hub they said that it wouldn’t be feasible for them to get there. CR5(S) has very low car ownership due to the very restricted parking on the estate, and many elderly residents who cannot walk that far up a steep gradient.

We propose the use of Heathgate Judo Club as the CR5 polling station if it is available. If it is unavailable we propose moving the polling station back to Don Pratt Court Sheltered Housing Community Room.

We would prefer the CR2 polling station to be moved back to Fugill Green Sheltered Housing Community Room as it is central to the polling district. This would negate the need for the proposed polling district boundary changes on the Heartsease estate between CR2 and CR4.

Eaton

We support the proposals.

Lakenham

We support the proposals.

We think that Arkwrights worked well as the polling station for LA3 in the 2019 general election if it were available.

Mancroft

We support the proposals.

Mile Cross

We support the proposals, particularly the use of a temporary polling station in Sloughbottom Park for MX3 which would make voting far more accessible to residents of MX3.

Nelson

We support the proposals. We think that Douro Chapel worked well as a polling station for NE5 for the 2021 local elections.

Sewell

We support the proposals.

Thorpe Hamlet

We support the proposals. We think St Martin-at-Palace Church worked well as a polling station for TH2 in the 2021 local elections.

Town Close

We propose that the Jenny Lind Community Project (ie the old post office) is used as the polling station for TO1.

We propose that Sainsburys is used as the polling station for TO5. Should this be unavailable our second choice would be The Kings Arms, and our third choice would be a temporary polling station.

University

We support the proposals.

Wensum

We propose that The Fat Percy Public House is retained as a double polling station for both WE2A and WE2. We think this worked well as a double polling station, and we wish to avoid unnecessary confusion for residents in WE2.
