Licensing - Environmental permitting

Under the Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999, certain industrial premises are required to have a environmental permit in order to operate. There are three parallel regulatory systems:

•    Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC)
•    Local Authority Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (LA-IPPC)
•    Local Authority Pollution Prevention and Control (LAPPC)

How long will it take to process my application?

Within 14 days after the application has been received and fee paid.

Determination of application

The application must be determined within four months of being duly made, although the local authority will try at accommodate any reasonable time scale.

If it is decided to refuse the application, the applicant will be advised in writing and given the right to appeal.

If the application is accepted, a permit is drafted.

The applicant has 28 days to comment on the draft permit and ensure it is clear, accurate and workable. After this period, the permit is issued and all regulatory inspections are conducted in accordance with the conditions in the permit.
