Environmental permits

Find out which industrial activities require an environmental permit, the types of permits available, how to apply or notify changes, associated fees and expected processing times.

Under the Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999, some industrial premises need an environmental permit to operate.

There are three types:

  • IPPC (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control)
  • LA-IPPC (Local Authority IPPC)
  • LAPPC (Local Authority Pollution Prevention and Control)

Apply or notify

Fees and processing

  • Applications are processed within 14 days of receiving payment.
  • Decisions are made within 4 months. If refused, you’ll be notified and can appeal.
