State of the art Norwich car park shortlisted for national award

Rose Lane multi-storey car park Published on Tuesday, 7th March 2017

Rose Lane’s eye catching multi-storey car park has been shortlisted in this year’s prestigious British Parking Awards.

The city council owned car park was put forward for the award category of ‘best new car park’ by Huber, the company that designed and built the impressive 595-space building in Mountergate.

Officially opened in May 2016 and project managed by NPS Norwich, the car park was built over five-stories and includes 36 disabled parking bays, racks inside and out for bicycles, new public toilets and recently installed electric charging points.

Space inside the building will also be let as offices or a café and the addition of 530m² of solar panels on the roof means the innovative building will help cut carbon emissions too.

Bert Bremner, cabinet member with responsibility for transport, said: “We’re very grateful to Huber for putting Rose Lane multi-storey car park forward for an award and really pleased to be shortlisted at this year’s British Parking Awards.

“Rose Lane is a very impressive modern car park. It’s only a ten minute walk on foot to the city centre and even less to the train station, Riverside and Castle Mall so it’s ideally located for lots of different groups and car park users.”

Markus Lauble, managing director of Huber Car Park Systems, said: “We’re very excited to be in the running for the best new car park award – its bold architectural design and complex specification makes Rose Lane a truly outstanding car park project.

“We’re thrilled that the panel of judges has shortlisted us for this prestigious award.”

Along with Rose Lane, the other car parks in the running are:

• B4 car park, Birmingham
• Feethams car park, Darlington
• University of Leeds multi-storey car park
• Waitrose car park, Solihull.

The award ceremony will take place on Friday 10 March in London.
