Have your say on what’s next for Hay Hill

Hay Hill consultation Published on Monday, 28th February 2022

Plans to create a reimagined, vibrant and accessible public space in the Hay Hill area of the city have been put forward in a public consultation starting on Monday 28 February.

The city council are urging businesses and residents to have their say on initial proposals via an online survey www.norwich.gov.uk/HayHill or by attending a drop-in session.

The council are asking the public how they use and feel about Hay Hill now and are seeking views on an outline project proposal for the space.

Proposals include rearranging the space so it can be used for cultural activities, new planting and improved seating to make it a more pleasant place to spend time, improving walking links through to other parts of the city, and the installation of a water feature.

Norwich City Council cabinet member for inclusive and sustainable growth, Councillor Mike Stonard, said:

“It’s great to see these plans emerging for a really important, but tired space in the city centre.  We are really keen to hear from all user groups to help us shape them up before we commence delivery later in the year.”

This project is one of eight in the city to be funded from the government’s £25 million Towns Fund, which was awarded to Norwich City Council in 2020. Partnership work between the council and the Norwich Town Deal Board – which represents key businesses and institutions across the city, has been integral in securing funding and moving forward projects.

Andrew Dernie, Chair of the Town Deal Board, said:

“Rejuvenating Hay Hill will create a vibrant, inviting, flexible space that will be attractive to residents and visitors, as well as those hosting cultural events or investing in businesses. Please take this opportunity to have your say and help shape the future of Hay Hill.”
