A new Lord Mayor and Sheriff of Norwich have officially taken up their ceremonial roles following a full council meeting at City Hall on Tuesday 20 May.
Councillor Paul Kendrick has been appointed Lord Mayor of Norwich for the coming civic year, taking over from Councillor Vivien Thomas. Stuart Wright has been named the new Sheriff of Norwich, succeeding Sirajul Islam.
The positions of Lord Mayor and Sheriff are historic and ceremonial roles, representing the city at civic and public events, supporting local charities, and acting as ambassadors for Norwich.
This year, the Lord Mayor’s civic charity is Norfolk and Waveney Mind, a local mental health charity that provides vital support, advice and services to people across the region.

Speaking after his appointment, he said: “It’s an incredible honour to serve as the Lord Mayor of Norwich.
“This city has a deep sense of community, and I look forward to celebrating that spirit over the coming year – especially while supporting the brilliant work of Norfolk and Waveney Mind, my chosen civic charity.”
His daughter Joanne will accompany him throughout his term, serving as Lady Mayoress.
