Norwich’s new container village has drummed up bigger demand than its Manchester equivalent according to site’s operators.
Fred Wyatt, Managing Director of Meanwhile Creative – which is set to open St Saviours Yard in the autumn said: “We’ve had over 400 expressions of interest already which is amazing and is more than we had at our Manchester site. The level of demand and interest in Norwich is off the scale.”
The Magdalen Street site was given planning permission earlier this summer by Norwich City Council as part of a meanwhile shopping and business space while the redevelopment of Anglia Square is underway.
It will feature over 80 containers with a broad retail offer and a range of workshops for creatives and businesses.
Councillor Carli Harper, cabinet member for finance and major projects said: “It’s fantastic to hear that we’ve surpassed the level of demand which Meanwhile Creative had in Manchester and shows how many creatives, businesses and entrepreneurs are mad for Norwich!
“I am convinced once St Staviours Yard is up and running it will be a thriving, buzzing attraction for consumers and tourists not only in Norwich but throughout the east of England and beyond.”
The new meanwhile space is part of wider plans by the council and Aviva Capital Partners to redevelop Anglia Square.
