Appeal a Council Tax Reduction decision

What to do if you don't agree with the decision about your Council Tax Reduction.

If you don't agree with our decision you have three options:

Ask for an explanation

If you’re unsure why the decision was made, you can ask us to explain it.

You must do this in writing within one month of the date on your decision letter.

Email us and we’ll send you a written explanation (called a “statement of reasons”).

Ask for a review

If you think the decision is wrong, you can ask us to look at it again.

This must also be done in writing within one month.

You’ll need to explain why you believe the decision is incorrect.

Make a formal appeal

If you still disagree after the review, you can appeal to the Valuation Tribunal by filling in their online form or email appeals@valuationtribunal.gov.uk.

You must do this within two months of our review decision.
