How to prepare for emergency situations

Find ways to build resilience for your community or business, and access tools that will help you.

Community resilience – helping each other in emergencies

Community resilience means working together and using local knowledge, skills, and resources to support each other during emergencies like floods or extreme weather.

Strong communities—where neighbours know and help each other—are better prepared to cope when things go wrong.

You can help by creating a Community Resilience Plan. This plan lists:

  • people who can offer help or have useful skills
  • equipment available in the area
  • who might need extra help in an emergency

Templates and more information are available on the Norfolk Prepared website.

You can also prepare at home by making a Household Emergency Plan. Just ask yourself, “What if something happens?”

Think about:

  • who you’d contact
  • where you’d go if you had to leave your home
  • what essentials you’d pack in a grab bag

Be ready for the unexpected: build business resilience

Disruptions like floods, storms, power cuts, or cyber-attacks can happen at any time. Being prepared can help your business keep going—even if it’s just at a basic level—until things return to normal.

What can you do?

  • what could go wrong? Make a list of possible risks
  • make a simple plan: Even a 10-minute plan can make a big difference.
  • stay cyber safe: Check if your business is protected from online threats
  • test your readiness: Practice what you would do in an emergency.
