  • businesses must check for asbestos and remove or treat it if needed

Important rules

  • use a licensed contractor for most asbestos work
  • the contractor must:
    • notify the council before starting
    • get approval for their work plan.
  • for low-risk materials (like asbestos cement), licensed contractors aren’t required—but they must:
    • do a risk assessment
    • follow safety procedures. 

Disposal

  • all asbestos waste must go to a licensed disposal site or be handled by a licensed contractor
