Cooling tower registration

Find out how to register a cooling tower or evaporative condenser, tell us about changes and view the register of all that are in Norwich.

All premises in Norwich where cooling towers and evaporative condensers are situated must, by law, be registered with the council.

Purpose of notification

This is to ensure that the relevant enforcing authority can be satisfied that suitable control measures are in place to protect employees and the general public from the risk of infection by organisms such as legionella.

How to register or tell us of any changes

Contact us with the following information:

  • the address where the cooling tower(s) or evaporative condenser(s) are located
  • the name and contact details of the person(s) in control of the premises
  • the number of cooling towers or evaporative condensers at the premises
  • a brief description of the location where the equipment is situated at the premises (this may include a site plan)
  • any other relevant information (changes to or removal of the cooling tower or evaporative condenser.

We will then return the information to you on the HSE approved form to review and sign.

On receipt of the signed form the register will be updated and we may inspect or inform the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) where they have enforcement responsibility.
