Check who is responsible

Before reporting a concern, check who is responsible for enforcing health and safety.

Norwich City Council is responsible for:

  • offices (excluding government buildings)
  • shops and retail parks
  • hotels
  • warehouses and builders merchants
  • restaurants, pubs, and nightclubs
  • leisure venues, theatres, and cinemas
  • nurseries and playgroups
  • places of worship
  • residential care homes

Report a health and safety concern to Norwich City Council

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is responsible for:

  • factories
  • building sites
  • schools and colleges
  • gas, electricity and water systems
  • hospitals and nursing homes
  • central and local government premises

What Norwich City Council can investigate

  • unsafe working practices
  • dangerous or poorly maintained premises
  • concerns about staff welfare
  • accidents that haven’t been reported

What happens next

An inspector may visit the site without warning. If there’s a problem, they’ll take action to make sure the workplace is safe.
