Residential noise

Not all noise is a problem - some are just part of normal life. Here’s what’s okay, and what you can do if noise becomes a concern.

Not all noise is considered antisocial. Here are some everyday sounds that are usually acceptable:

Normal household noise

Things like vacuuming, walking, doors opening and closing, and talking are part of everyday life.

Children playing

Kids playing in the street or shared areas is normal and important for their development. It might be noisy at times, but it’s not antisocial behaviour.

Babies crying

Babies cry – it’s natural. If you're worried about a child’s safety, contact Norfolk County Council’s safeguarding team at 0344 800 8020 or report online. If it’s an emergency, call 999.

DIY noise

Sounds from decorating, drilling, or putting furniture together are common. If it happens often or late at night, consider having a polite chat with your neighbour.
