All you need to begin recycling your food waste is:
- a small kitchen caddy, which you can order for free
- an external food waste bin, which you can order for free
- some kind of liner for your kitchen caddy.
What can I use to line my caddy
How do I get more liners?
Norwich City council are currently providing free caddy liners. When you need another roll just tie a liner to your external bin on collection day and the crew will drop you off some more.
Due to changes in the way that Norwich food waste is recycled, plastic bags can now be used in your kitchen food caddy. We are encouraging residents to reuse existing plastic bags, like shopping bags that are coming to the end of their life. Food bags such as bread, salad or cereal bags can also be used. Residents can also continue to use compostable liners.
How to recycle your food waste
- Line your kitchen caddy to make it easier to transfer to the external caddy.
- Put all your leftover, mouldy or out-of-date food in your kitchen caddy. No packaging please.
- When your caddy is full, tie the liner and put it in your external food waste bin.
- Keep the lid of your external food bin locked to keep out foxes and other pests.
- We will collect your food waste every week on your collection day.
- Leave your external food waste bin at the edge of your property on the pavement before 7am on your collection day.
- Please note: small kitchen caddies presented for collection won't be emptied.
