New leader and cabinet member line-up announced

The city council’s new leader, and her cabinet, were confirmed at this afternoon’s meeting of full council.
Lucy Galvin was elected as leader of the council. She will prioritise being a council that listens and her responsibilities will include devolution and Local Government Reorganisation, major projects, the community-led plan, communications and workforce.

Cllr Galvin confirmed her six-strong cabinet, and their portfolio areas, as follows:

  • Cllr Ian Stutely (deputy leader) – Getting the basics right (planning and regulatory)
  • Cllr Toby Bolton – A sustainable city (climate and environment)
  • Cllr Martin Schmierer – Investing wisely (finance)
    Cllr Denise Carlo – New and improved housing (housing and communities)
  • Cllr Josh Worley – An equal, thriving, independent city (business and social justice)
  • Cllr Jenny Knight – Healthier neighbourhoods (culture and wellbeing)

Cllr Galvin said:

 “We were elected as Norwich’s first-ever Green-led council to bring hope and change. Year round on the doorsteps we have been hearing that people want warmer homes and lower energy bills; cleaner, safer streets; more and truly affordable housing; greener spaces; a fairer city and to make every penny count. 
“That is what we are going to do. We will get the basics right, make sure we listen to the people of our fine city, and work hard every day to build a better Norwich for everyone.” 

The new Lord Mayor will be Cllr Karen Davis, Deputy Lord Mayor – Cllr Gary Champion, Sheriff of Norwich – Dave Shraga.
