New high quality CCTV cameras have been installed at Normandie Tower, Springbank, Douro Place, Marlpit Lane, Bowers Avenue and Heathgate.
These are fly-tipping hot spots and previous analysis suggests that these should significantly reduce the incidence of fly-tipping in these areas. However, if it doesn’t the high-resolution CCTV footage will provide evidence of the fly-tipping and help in identifying the perpetrators and lead to fixed penalty notices being issued.
Fly-tipping is a crime and with over 5,000 incidences of fly-tipping in the city every year, it is one we take very seriously. A public survey that was carried out in 2022 showed that over 70% of our residents were supportive that we take steps to tackle this issue.
Since 2023 we have issued 11 penalty notices, carried out nearly 100 investigations, and issued over 50 warning letters.
Cllr Emma Hampton, cabinet member for a climate responsive Norwich says, “We take the issue of fly-tipping very seriously and our teams work very hard to stay on top of this issue with 95% of reported incidents cleared within 24 hours. These cameras will provide us with much needed evidence to identity common offenders and deter others from committing these crimes.”
“We want to empower our residents and ensure that people can take pride in their neighbourhoods and love where they live.”
This work forms part of the next phase of our ‘Love Norwich’ campaign and we will keep our residents updated with further developments and our progress.
Love Norwich is a campaign dedicated to working with our residents to make Norwich the very best it can possibly be.
